Control of Clarifier Flocculent for Construction Aggregate
Processing Plants
Typical Process: Many construction aggregate producers use a clarifier unit to
remove suspended solids from dirty wash water. Normally producers add a chemical
flocculent (‘floc’) into the aid in the removal of suspended solids. Added into the
center well of a clarifier, the floc is mixed with the incoming high-solid laden process
water. When unadjusted for differences in suspended solids the plant may underdose
resulting in poor yields or overdose contribution to chemical flocculate waste.
Galvanic Advantage: By installing Monitek CSK Probe into the center well of the
clarifier to continuously monitor incoming solids and connecting a Monitek
Messenger Transmitter to the
floc control pump, a construction
aggregate producer can
automatically adjust flocculent
dosing. The floc pump’s variable
Hz speed control can be
continuously adjusted when
attached to the Messenger’s 4-20
mA output. Real-time floc
control results in reduced floc
consumption and process
optimization.
