According to the World Steel Organization’s publication, Sustainable Steel at the Core of a Green Economy, global steel production has grown more than seven-fold since 1950. By 2050, steel use is projected to increased by 1.5 times that of present levels. Steel, once produced is 100 percent recyclable, without loss of properties, and therefore has potential for an infinite life cycle. Advances in materials science mean that today there are literally thousands of types of steel designed to meet the specific needs of end users, with small changes in the composition, structure, and process for manufacturing the steel alloy enabling desired changes in properties, such as strength, stiffness, ductility.
The industry continues to make serious efforts to reduce its environmental impact, and as such, World Steel has been collecting “cradle-to-gate” environmental inputs (resource use: raw materials, energy, water) and output (emissions to land, air, and water) data since 1995. Water is used throughout the steel-making processes, used mainly for cooling or heat transfer, and for descaling, dust scrubbers, etc.
Extremely sensitive, rugged, and reliable, Galvanic systems are ideally suited to help assure steel manufacturers meet process and regulatory requirements. From enabling real-time control of plating operations to headache-free compliance with effluent regulations − Galvanic’s systems deliver the utmost in ease-of-operation, precise measurements, consistent, field-proven performance − and value.
